This edited volume presents case studies of the transformation of China’s public services over the past decade in China. As the country has experienced fundamental changes in its demographic, economic, social and environmental structures, demands on public services have been increasing tremendously, and have become unprecedentedly diverse. In response, innovations to provide new services, expand service recipients, adopt new technologies, engage partners, and streamline service processes have been employed widely in China to increase service efficiency, enhance quality, enlarge coverage, and improve citizen satisfaction. This book examines prominent cases of public service innovations in China, disclosing their causes, patterns, diffusion, and effects. These cases provide interesting evidence about the nature and effectiveness of public service innovations in China while highlighting to what extent these innovations can be explained by accepted theories and whether new theory building is needed. This book will be of value to academics and policymakers seeking to understand the evolving Chinese political system.

This is the second McLaren book I've read, and I have the same issue with both - he has a good idea, he states it clearly at the outset, he spends a chapter or two doing a good job setting it up....and then he just gets lost. In reading both books I had the exact same experience of being really excited, going along with him for the ride for several chapters, and then finding myself just tossing the thing aside, because it got bogged down. So to be fair, I have to say I did not finish this book. I TRIED - mightily. But after really making his point in the first couple of chapters, teasing you that he would develop them further in the remainder of the book, he simply didn't. So I left.

I liked this book a lot. McLaren is very warm to those that would disagree with him, and many of his ideas are very compelling. He makes the case for a new "kind" of Christian identity, which he calls "strong and benevolent" in contrast to the "strong but hostile" style of hardline Conservative Christianity, and the "weak but benevolent" style of the more liberal/unitarian beliefs.I think this book is worth reading regardless of your beliefs or views. McLaren's challenges in this book are very needed in today's world, and I found myself regularly challenged by it. He also really seems to live it out. However, I will say that this book is directed to Christians. The book title might be a little misleading - the book is largely about Christianity, and doesn't spend much more than a chapter talking about the specifics of Islam or Judaism.Personally there are many aspects of Christianity that I hold dearly such as the afterlife, and the problem of suffering apart from human evil, or spiritual formation that are either unaddressed or de-emphasized by McLaren. But no book is complete. I enjoyed the book a lot, and I think it will help me be a better neighbor.

Why do we think that our beliefs are supreme over others' beliefs? And based on those differences, oftentimes, results in the most violent and offensive actions. Beliefs always transfer into decisions and then actions. The kind of God you believe in, whether loving and benevolent, or violent and retributive, determines how you treat "the other".Brian gives a very insightful perspective of our historical decisions that have not always resulted in benevolence but rather conflict and murder. We should walk the road with benevolence toward our fellow Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhist to work together to help the poor, the needy, the outcasts, as well as making sound decisions about our use of this beautiful planet, keeping in mind how our decisions and actions might affect individuals' well being across the globe.

"To accept and love God, must I betray my neighbor of another religion? To accept and love my neighbor, must I betray the God of my religion?"The past couple of decades have been exceptional when it comes to religious diversity. Christianity is no longer the cultural norm in America. Incidents across the world have highlighted our many differences. How do Christians respond to Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, and so on?Brian McLaren's appropriately titled book Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road? attempts to refocus our goals as followers of Christ. From a purely historical and literary perspective, Jesus is a very interesting character. He spends almost his entire ministry with societal outcasts while specifically avoiding the religious authority of the day. Now fast forward over two thousand years, where do we find the followers of Jesus? Are they more concerned about loving people or staying in line with Christian values?McLaren divides this book into four sections. The Crisis of Christian Identity. Identify yourself as a Christian and you will unfortunately be labeled with several negative qualities. Regrettably, most of these perceived qualities have been earned by well-intended but severely misguided Christians. Just like the Pharisees found in the Gospels, Christians today have become more concerned about staying holy and not sinning that we forget to love our brothers and sisters on earth. To be strong Christians, we need humble hearts. To be strong Christians, we need to focus on loving others as an act of loving God. We will definitely receive reprimands from the Christian mainstream but as McLaren reminds us, "Crucifixion happens, not at the hand of others, but Us."The Doctrinal Challenge and The Liturgical Challenge. These two sections were a bit weak in my opinion. I understand McLaren's desire to refocus our doctrines and liturgy so that we focus more on others and the love that God wants us to show. I liked the areas where I felt like he was correcting doctrinal misunderstandings, but I didn't like how he tried to change the entire focus of a tradition or sacrament. See chapter on baptism. I certainly don't disagree with his changes or adjustments, I just don't think the changes are the solution. There was not much tie in to the whole theme of the book. The Missional Challenge. The best way to describe the challenge of being a Christian in a multifaith world can be summed up by Gandhi. One, be like Christ. Two, don't tone done your message. Three, center on love. Four, study non-Christian religions. In conclusion, this is great book on religious diversity and more importantly, loving others. This is the book I think Rob Bell was trying to write when he penned Love Wins. Brian McLaren does a great job writing in simple and straightforward terms. He does not try to throw Greek words at you to prove a theological point. I look forward to reading more from McLaren in the future.

Excellent book for our time when there is so much hatred for people of other faiths. Mr McLaren shows how we can connect with other faiths without diluting our own faith. He shows us how to give compassion to others and to see God at work in other faiths. I have always believed that God shows himself to all in different ways. He does not despise others as they are His children also. Remember the story of Abraham, Sarah and her servant Hagar. Sarah was jealous of Hagar as Ismael was the first born of their family and Isaac the second born. But God did not desert Ismael and Hagar but promised them blessings in the future. We have to look at others and see God in them. This is the way to bring peace to earth by joining together for the good of all.

The regular volumes always seemed to short for me, and if you wanna get them now that they're all at their lowest prices, they still will add up to more than these so called omnibus editions. The only real difference is that you don't get the orginal covers, but if you love One Piece, then you know that it's the story that gets you, not what's on the outside. Still, I figure that the complete sagas will eventually be released, so you have a choice to make, wait for what may come..... or go after what you love, before its too late!

I'll admit, when I first saw a chapter of this manga in Shonen Jump YEARS ago, I hated it. The drawing style was a huge turn off to me, the elongated bodies and morphed shapes when fighting, not to mention the whole blah blah pirates thing blah, were a huge turn off to me. And I knew without a doubt that I would NEVER want to read this stupid series.I am now eating those words. I have Collections 1-6 of the anime and have just bought the 3-in-1 volumes 7-9, 10-12, 13-15. So here I am, hooked on another manga series I swore I'd NEVER like that just so happens to be LONGER THEN BLEACH CURRENTLY! *Sigh*Volume 7 and half of 8 are the end of the getting Sanji story while the second half of 8 and all of 9 are the beginnings of the truth about Nami section. These have great fight scenes, wonderful character development, and some interesting plot developments. This is still early days, though we are seeing the beginnings of twilight on the East Blue section of the One Piece Saga. Luffy is facing two of the toughest foes in the East Blue, which will start to prepare him for future conflicts he will face. The artwork is excellent. For people new to manga, this may not be readily apparent. Make no mistake, this is not Rumiko Takahashi or Tite Kubo, whose styles are more...normal perhaps then Eiichiro Oda's. His style is very distinctive, which is a good thing is the competitive manga market. What I found was that his elongated bodies imply movement to a degree that the still black and while pages seem to come alive in a way that I've not really experienced in other manga. I don't know if that is what the artist is going for but that is what I've experienced.Something else that strikes me about this series is how diverse the information is in it. You have Sanji who waxes eloquently about cooking and uses french terms for his kicks, to Nami who talks about navigational information, to naval practices that are at least partially based on historical information...the list goes on and on. There is so much packed into this manga that there seems to be something for everyone, even someone who just wants an action pack story and doesn't want to look beyond that. For those that do, you'll learn a thing or two.*The Rant*The artwork might be a turn off for some people. The main issue some might have with this was something that shocked me even after watching the anime. This is not a child's manga. There are some rather dark segments of this story; not horrible or scarring for life necessarily but not for all readers. The best example of this is in volume 7 when (view spoiler) This was disturbing even for me as this is quite different from what they have happen the anime. It shows the desperate straits that sailors could find themselves in on the high seas but not everyone should read such things.*Conclusion*If you are interested in manga, the One Piece series is something to consider. In someways a unique series, it has a little bit of everything that makes it fun for many different people to read. It is however, clearly a teen book and should not be read below that level. If you are just now starting to collect, these 3-in-1 books are great ways to catch up as you basically get one of the volumes free based on the cost of three separate volumes versus one of these

great condition

My son loves it!

One Piece: East Blue, Vols. 7-8-9 is another 600-page monster of a collection, the third of 12 so far in the One Piece series. The collection starts off on the Baratie, a floating restaurant, where Don Krieg, commander of the Pirate Armada, has attacked. The first 200 pages or so are a continuation of that battle from the previous volume, including about an 80-page flashback to when the current sous-chef, Sanji, was a boy. Following that, Sanji joins the crew, but Nami, their navigator, has disappeared with all their money. They go in search of her and find out that she betrays people for a living! There's another 80-page flashback about Nami's childhood, but will the betrayer be betrayed, herself?I really wasn't a fan of most of Vol. 7. The battle went on entirely too long, and there was unfortunately too long of a break between me reading One Piece: East Blue, Vols. 4-5-6 and me reading this volume. Simply put, if you liked the first six volumes of One Piece: East Blue, then get to reading this volume right away. For me, the highlights of the book were the two flashback sequences. Oda has a very good style with flashbacks. I also got a couple of belly laughs out of Vol. 8, which was my favorite of the three. ****

Son liked them.

Amazon.com Review

An idealistic young Catholic priest in an isolated French village keeps a diary describing the unheroic suffering and the petty internal conflicts of his parish. This may sound like a thin plot for a novel, but Diary of a Country Priest, by George Bernanos, remains one of the 20th century's most vivid evocations of saintly life. First published in 1937, Bernanos's Diary describes a faithful man's experience of failure. In his diary, the priest records feelings of inferiority and sadness that he cannot express to his parishioners. And as he approaches death, from cancer, the priest's saintliness remains unclear to him, but becomes undeniable to the reader. "How easy it is to hate oneself! True grace is to forget. Yet if pride could die in us, the supreme grace would be to love oneself in all simplicity--as one would love any one of those who themselves have suffered and loved in Christ." --Michael Joseph Gross

This is a good book to revisit through the years. I enjoy that I can come back to its familiarity to remember the simplicity of this life. It is a good novel to keep Catholics grounded and remember the natural simplicity that life can offer, that can fill the soul. It's a tough book to get into, but give it 50 pages and you'll be in. I'll keep this on my shelf with my growing "Catholic Novel" collection for many years.

First of all, I want to say that the novel itself truly deserves to be called a masterpiece. It is beautiful and painful and truly a joy to read. That being said, the Kindle version was less than perfect. M. Cure le *Torcy* is always written as "Torey" in this version, for one example. There are typos and misprints throughout. While I was still able to enjoy the beauty of the novel, I feel as though I would have enjoyed it more, had the quality of the ebook been better.

This novel is a masterpiece. It's beauty, truth and goodness steal upon you slowly as you realize through the understated prose, some of which is lapidary in wisdom, that describes the most monotonous, routine kind of life and parish ministry of a young Priest in France who is filled with a dolorous self doubt, incomprehension, boredom and sense of futility that verges on despair, targeted by village gossip and afflicted by an undiagnosed cancer, that grace is working, on him and through him. As a work of art, it is nearly perfectly constructed, possessing a radiant, formal beauty. The form is certainly matched to content. reading the book itself is inevitably to be enveloped by the bleakness and to identify with the Priest: it is an astringent, depressing experience relieved only with the gradual realization that something astonishing is happening. As a document humain it is unsurpassed in its sensitive and redemptive portrayal of the emptiness and ennui of so much of modern life through which and on which the action of grace continues to work. I highly recommend this book but I recommend too that the reader be patient and dutiful as is the Priest and in this way, as does the Priest -- who is never named and is, thus, in this way, Everyman and woman -- offer one's self, with humility, to something greater.

The "coming of age" story is a definitive genre. Usually, it is the story that we are handed in high school and which somehow we identify with because the main character is going through the same issues and has the same concerns we had at the time, albeit perhaps in a more romantic, more elevated way. I'm thinking here of works like James Joyce's "The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" and Ernest Hemingway's "Farewell to Arms" and J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye."Unfortunately, if you miss those books as a young person, you may not be able to recapture the magic of those books. I've read a few of these books as a mature adult and I found the characters mostly insufferable. Listening to them express disappointment in the world and how it does not measure up to their expectations can set my teeth on edge. This book is almost the opposite of those books, and, strangely, it is one that I can relate to more - now, perhaps, than I could have at a younger age. In this appraisal, I am perhaps like the writer of the preface, whose reading of it caused him to leave the seminary. The story is about a young, unnamed priest who takes over an isolated, inbred, suspicious, bored and mostly unchristian parish. The priest is from the lowest order of peasants and had an impoverished childhood, but somehow he has learned an incredible humility and patience. His parishioners are suspicious of him and play pranks on him and take advantage of him when they can. His upbringing without money or business knowledge leaves him vulnerable to his parishioners. He also suffers stomach pain, which prevents him from eating, leaving him emaciated and weak. But the priest's innocence and humility have an effect on his parishioners, which he seems to be unaware. The age of the priest is never specified - I get the sense of him being in his late 20s, based on one passage. If you've lived through that age and been given charge of some special responsibility to others, then you know that the sense of responsibility is intense, with constant questioning of what is the right thing to do and the knowledge of a lack of experience and wisdom. I found that part of the character to be quite an accurate representation of the process of growing into a mature adulthood. The story is formed in the manner of a diary, and like a diary it is episodic. The diarist does not tell everything he knows. Sometimes we watch exchanges that are perplexing in their development. The discussion with Mlle. Chantal, for example, seems to beg the question of how the priest knew about the letter that she was carrying. Likewise, the death of Dr. Delbende starts out as a hunting accident but gradually is identified as a suicide, with a foreshadowing of issues for the priest. But, again, this is supposed to be a diary, and we don't write everything down in our diaries. The reader should just let the book flow and follow along. For me, the story started out slow, but toward the middle, particularly the meeting with Madame Contess, it picked up steam. By the end, particularly when the priest is diagnosed and has his conversation with the woman his former seminary friend is living with, it becomes powerful, particularly with the closing lines that "Does it matter? Grace is everywhere...."There is a story here, and character development, but there are also long orations by particular characters which express what must have been Bernanos views on religion, culture and the state. These are worth reading and contemplating, such as the offhand comment by a friendly French soldier that the "The last real soldier died on May 30, 1431, and you killed her, you people." (p. 245.) I particularly liked this: "It greatly comforts me also, to think that nobody has been guilty of real harshness towards me - not to say the great word: injustice. I certainly respect those victims of iniquity who are able to find in that knowledge some basis of strength and hope. Somehow I should always hate to think myself - though unwittingly - the cause or merely the pretext of another's sin. Even from the Cross, when Our Lord in His agony found the perfection of His saintly Humanity - even then He did not own Himself a victim of injustice: They know not what they do. Words that have meaning for the youngest child, words some would like to call childish, but the spirits of evil must have been muttering them ever since without understanding, and with ever-growing terror. Instead of the thunderbolts they awaited it as though a Hand of innocence closed over the chasm of their dwelling." (p. 292.)Clearly, this is an introspective book about religion and spiritual matters. If the reader is looking for something with more action, then they should pass this by, but if they want an interesting examination of the journey of a soul, this is a book worth reading.

This is one of my favorite books. I know some think it slow, and I would agree; however, read it through to the end, and I think you will be glad you did. Some beautiful reflections on life, love, and faith. Sometimes you find hope in the most unlikely places.

This book is about the search for hope, a search that involves every living human being. It deserves a second reading, slower than the first, when one is older and personally more familiar with the material, especially that in the climactic scene of Chapter 5. Bernanos is often compared to Dostoevsky, but he is much closer to Camus. One cannot read about this country priest, especially when he speaks of his passion for personal journal writing, without realizing that this is Bernanos himself describing his struggles and passions. It is unfortunate that this book is labeled a religious novel, thus turning away many secular readers. Just as Dostoevsky was often thought a nihilist because of his brilliant writings on atheism, Bernanos could be thought one lost to despair because of his insights into the human condition. Camus says that one must invent hope if it does not exist; Bernanos does this with the country priest's diary. He leaves no doubt, however, that his hope is sincere and real.

As someone with not just one, but three different inflammatory auto-immune disorders to cope with, I figured out some time ago that my body responds much better to a healthy diet than to prescription medicines, which often have very undesirable side effects, as well. Emma Green explains very clearly about inflammatory reactions and diet, including which foods to avoid and/or minimize. Even better, she's filled this book with great tasty, easy-to-prepare dishes and beverages, with ingredients which are not at all difficult to find. Many are those I've already learned to keep on hand. She's given me some new and interesting ideas on how to use them to make healthy and delicious food. This book is well thought out, well planned, and well executed. Thank you, Emma Green!

Anti Inflammatory Diet: 4-Week Meal Plan for Beginners with Easy Recipes to Fight Inflammation and Restore Your Healthy Weight by Emma GreenTOC where recipes are broken up into meals.Intro talks about what infmatory disease is and how to avoid it by what you eat.Basic guidelines along with what to avoid and what you should be eating is included.Meal plan for 4 weeks is included.Recipes start with a title, medium size color photo, prep and cook time and servings.Nutritional information: carbs, fat-NOT broekn up into good or bad, protein, and calories.List of ingredients and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low sodium, low fat, low sugar products and fresh vs canned.Directions are also given. Sweet potato chips would be our choice to try as it's baked! Love the idea of chocolate cherry clusters for a snack after our hikes.Bonus section of smoothies and drinks . Conversion tables are listed at the end.Other works by the author are highlighted at th eend.

If you, like every person, do not know where to start a diet, but the doctor prescribed it for you, do not be afraid to give up unhealthy and high-calorie foods, because a healthy diet involves a large variety of dishes that will undoubtedly become your favorite.

An helpful book. This book is splendid. I inclined such huge numbers of successful thing from this book. I was just diagnosed with an inflammatory condition, and I found this book to be super helpful. I did an Anti Inflammatory Diet once a few years ago, and I felt the best I ever have in my life-- but figuring out to make was overwhelming and stressful. This book takes out the overwhelm, and makes following this diet much, much easier. It is simple, straightforward, and very easy to read. I can't wait to get started with these recipes! The only suggestion I have with future editions is to include more substitutions, particularly with the smoothies. Also, wanted to add that YES this book does include some food not typically found in an Anti Inflammatory Diet. However, if you read the entire intro section it explains why, and stresses the importance of listening to your body and eliminating those foods if they cause you trouble.I was really astounded by perceiving what number of imperative recommendations accumulated in such a short book. Creator completed a phenomenal activity. I'll most likely prescribe this book to my loved ones. I really appreciate this book. Thanks to creator.

Very disappointed in this book. Pictures ( all black and white by the way) do not match recipes. Info is screwed up. Limit fish to twice a week yet the diet is fish 5 days a week for a month!Like others have said, the book says to avoid certain foods but there they are in the recipes!Do not waster your money on this

Food is often the answer to our diseases that’s true…among the anti-inflammatory foods are leaf vegetables, beets, pineapple, salmon and others. This book collects a nice collection with their part.

I'm following this meal plan since a week now and results are satisfied so far, a good collection of anti inflammatory Recipes is inside breakfast, dinner, lunch, main dishes, desserts and soups are included. I cooked some snakes recipes too Smoked Trout & Mango Wraps Smoked Turkey Wrapped Zucchini Sticks Sweet Potato Chips and Mini Snack Muffins are delicious.

The book contradicts itself. Says to limit or avoid dairy, soy, and citrus yet here it is eith recipies with cheese, soymilk and grapefruit! I'd return it but it costs more then half of what I paid just to return it!

I read the 210-260 OCG book cover to cover, took the exam and failed with a 676. I went out and picked up a copy of 31 days before the CCNA Security exam, read that cover to cover and failed again tonight with a 778. It seems like all of the official publications aren't going deep enough in core concepts. Some of the things I noticed were tested in-depth but not covered in much detail by the Cisco Press books:MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB)AsyncOS Email Reputation actions (Defang/Redirect/Replace URL)Software Assurance Maturity Model (SAMM)ESA File Analysis/Log interpretationFirePOWER PreprocessorsEAP/EAP-TLS/LEAP/PEAP/EAP-FASTCisco ASA Packet Process AlgorithmASA Use of LDAP Attribute MapsESP Packet dissectionCisco Context Adaptive Scanning EngineIP Routing Protocol-Independent CommandsNetwork Device Enrollment Service (NDES)Cisco Web Security- Granular access controls

I originally bought the paperback version of this book but I returned it because for an equivalent price you can get the Digital Study Guide version of this book from somewhere like Cisco Press and it includes videos, packet tracer labs, and end of lesson quizzes. The paperback version references the extra content in the Digital Study Guide but gives you no way to access it. Very disappointing.I passed the CCNA Security this morning with an 888. You need an 860 to pass. I used the Digital Study Guide version of this book, the Boson Exam Environment for CCNA Security, and cbtnuggets.com. Honestly, the Boson Exams and cbtnuggets.com helped more than anything else. I also used the Boson Exams and cbtnuggets.com to pass the CCNA Routing and Switching a couple years back. I hope this information can help anyone who is out there trying to find study material. Give the Boson Exams and cbtnuggets.com a try. They are awesome and incredibly thorough!

not even close to what is on the exam typical cisco crap test that asks question not even in any published material..cisco sucks. company is always taking peoples money for tests and faulty software solutions..

pretty good review...as author states, do not only use this book for studying...read two or three times...fairly quick read...got the kindle edition, did good...

You can not pass the exam alone with this book but it definitely is a valuable tool in filling in the gaps of other study resources.

Good to use if you don't have other resources.

Good coverage of objectives.

Great book and CCNA exam-directed....
