Read through this one in one sitting last night! While at first it feels like a coming of age story of a hapless youth, it quickly becomes an action packed read about a kick a@@ hero. That's right smashing bad guys and making damsels both reputable and irrefutable swoon in distress. Many of our favorite fantasy characters make an appearance, yet Wright has written them in ways that veer from known paths keeping the reader interested. While its over 400 pages, the story still felt like it ended way too soon leaving readers ready for the next book. Overall awesome read.
I've read all of the author's previous works, and I have to say that this one is much better written and edited than his Reaper books. Yes, there are still multiple editing problems revolving around missing words throughout the book, but it was easy enough to get past that annoyance.The MC is something of a moron, but again, he's a teenager and at least he isn't a teenager crying like a baby throughout the book. That's a major plus.Another reviewer had an issue with the MC's acceptance of his "slavery", and I have to agree. I think, however, that the author just didn't write in enough to fully flesh out the situation and mindset of the parties involved.All in all it was a pretty good read. Even though it sort of felt (in a lot of ways) like a poor man's version of Michael-Scott Earle's Destroyer series, it was different enough to stand on its own legs. I would certainly want to read a book #2 if it's published.
This story felt as if I was immersed in the action. I loved the story so much I didn’t want to finish the book so that it wouldn’t end. This author does not write very fast but I am used to waiting for his books. Great job Mr. Wright.
Almost from the beginning I found the book bringing me into the story and holding my attention. I liked the storyline of humans, elves, dragons and of course the ancient one. The book may have finished a little short however I look forward to the next book in the saga and how the storyline continues to play out. So overall I found this to be a very good read.
I liked how each of the characters are different in their own unique way. They weren't extremely steriotypical with their origins and you didn't really know who the main antagonist is in this book. You can understand the motivations for each character in their actions.
Started reading it and couldn't put it down. It starts off as what seems a budding fantasy romance that can't be and then takes off on a fast roller coaster ride. There are twists and turns as viewpoints change, but it all comes together and leaves you wanting more.
A real well worth the time. A unique primary character with few fears, and plenty or room to grow. A new taste perhaps of interspecies romance.
Great new series by Thomas Wright. Can’t wait for the next book!
