I have Amazon prime so it came really fast (2 days) ! Book was in perfect condition. I am aware that there is a online file but it is always good to have a physical copy ! I see a lot of reviews complaining that there isn't many romanization in the book . It's said that it's best that you memorize Hangul first, Korean romanization won't really help you in your studies because it is rarely pronounced how it looks because their tongue placement is different from most English letters and characters so I can understand why it is like, that so I won't be taking away a star for that.

First a disclaimer that I am completely new to Korean and this is the first book I have used. I don't have any experience with Korean at all. My mom got me this book for my birthday and I love it! I don't know any Korean but I love Kdrama and Kpop and have recently really wanted to learn the language. This book starts nice and slow and has tons of practice for the alphabet. It has stroke order and has a workbook to practice your handwriting.There is also a section all for typing the Korean alphabet which is really helpful to use Korean online. I feel like I am just getting a grip of the alphabet and can read certain words. Hangul is really cool to write! I just got the book so I haven't gone to far into the grammar lessons but the book is really organized and it has high frequency phrases, that would most likely help you in Korea and it does seem to cover most of the basic grammar points. Anyway I love this book and hope I will be able to understand Korean soon. :)

This book is fairly good, I think it's laid out pretty well and covers a fair amount of grammar topics and the 2 number and counting system. I skipped the hangeul section because I could already read in Korean so I can't comment on that but I would recommend using an audio source when learning hangeul. That being said I wasn't at zero when I started this book, I knew a bit of korean and I've noticed that this book has a lot of errors/typos that would trip up or confuse a beginner or someone who is using this book as their sole source of learning.

This book is single highhandedly the best introductory resource to Korean that I've seen so far... and I have tons of books. This book has explanations that took me ages to search for on the web. This is something that I wish I had when I first started learning Korean. It is really well laid out and keeps me motivated because there is a structure to everything. If you don't have Korean classes in your area this is a really great alternative. I've heard great things about Japanese From Zero and was so excited when George announced he was working on Korean from Zero. There are plenty of places to practice your handwriting in the Hangul section as well as the rest of the book. One problem with most of the books that I own is that it is laid out just like a novel with no opportunity to practice. This book allows me to constantly feel engaged. The best part is that after the Hangul section, romanization is completely absent! Including romanization in a language learning book is the absolute WORST thing authors can do. Stop it! If you seriously want to learn a language then you need to learn the alphabet. Romanization is used as a crutch and will ultimately slow you down. If you're serious about learning Korean this is definitely the book for you - for that reason alone.

This book is a really solid introduction to Korean and works well for self-study. I already knew how to read hangeul, so I can't speak to the quality of that section, but it truly starts "from zero", giving you some phrases you can use immediately and steadily building up your vocabulary and grammar. It even has a section on how to type in hangeul, which is very useful for someone starting out.One of the things I really like about it this book (in contrast to a lot of others) is that it provides a ton of example sentences for each chapter using the new vocabulary and grammar for that chapter, giving you a lot of exposure in context as well as additional information and helpful reminders. The grammar explanations are clear and thorough, and the exercises are extremely helpful for solidifying what you've learned.The book has an unfortunate number of small errors and typos throughout, especially in the end of chapter exercises, so you should definitely combine this book with other resources (well, you should do that even if the book has no mistakes). Additionally, I think the vocabulary could be presented in a more logical way - the first group of vocabulary you'll learn is about body parts (?) followed in the next chapter by fruit (??). While these are things you'll want to learn at some point, it undercuts the book's focus on helping you learn useful things first. Again, though, you shouldn't be relying on one textbook for vocabulary, so I can't complain too much, especially when the core content is so strong. Give this one a shot for self-study!

Amazing. Made so simple and understandable, the audio is a life saver too. I learned the Hangul basics and memorized sounds in the first day.

Absolutely awesome book for beginners to Korean! I love the fact that its both a workbook and a textbook, and everything is so down to earth! It doesn't feel like you're just reading a huge wall of text like most language books. I think its really great that the writing portion teaches you everything you need to know about reading and writing hangul, and after that chapter, none of the Korean words are romanized. I absolutely recommend this book to any beginner wanting to hop straight into learning Korean on their own.

My grandson LOVES the paper book and so I thought he would enjoy this board book. He does like the sounds and the pictures but it is not the complete story and he misses some of the words. I think this would be a great choice for a toddler if they had not seen the full paper version first.

Top button doesnâ€™t work. Not sure what happened, but one button doesnâ€™t work. I contacted the manufacturer....itâ€™s been a week and I havenâ€™t heard anything. Very disappointed and will avoid purchasing anything by this publisher in the future.

Not close the original! My 2.5 yr old son had the original book and I thought this would enhance his experience but the story itself is so truncated

Our grandson loved this book for his second birthday. He loves construction equipment and the sounds were a special extra while reading the book. He always says "beep beep" when he backs up his toy dump truck. Just great.

I bought this book as a gift. Unfortunately, it doesn't make any sound, the batteries are dead. After spending $12 on this I know have to go out and buy new batteries before I can give it to the birthday child. Extremely disappointed that they would ship an item out that doesn't work.

My son loves construction equipment and this book really delivers for him. It's sturdy and can handle a 2 year old constantly man handeling it. Each page has a different construction equipment, the buttons with the sound aren't too loud that it annoys me when my son pushes them a ton, it's just a good r as before bed to help settle in.

My kid loves this book! Having a kid that is obsessed with construction vehicles I was looking for something that would be perfect for bedtime and this did the trick. The pictures in the book keep him interested and the sounds just add to that. It had made story time at bed that much more fun!

My son absolutely loves this book! He is two and obsessed with all things construction, so this was perfect for him. The book is cute and fun and everything works properly.

If you wanted to see what life was like in the Waffen-SS, this will give the best first hand account yet. Well written with feelings of how the volunteer felt when joining and how it was throughout the fighting. One of the better books regarding training and fighting in he Waffen-SS by a survivor. Intense and exciting it is very well written and gives a close up personal account of the wart on the Russian front and into Germany at the end. Lots of crisp photos and one of the best war books I have read.

Twilight of Gods is a memoir any serious WWII buff should have in his library. Erik Wallin is a Swede volunteered to join the SS. He started fighting the Soviets in Finland, and then soon after joined the SS. However, the book covers only the last three months of the war. It starts out in the Courland pocket but soon his unit is transferred to Germany. He is involved in trying to prevent the Soviets from crossing the Oder, and then of course eventually trying to prevent the Soviets from taking Berlin.The following items were covered in this book that I found very interesting and not covered in any of the many German Army memoirs I have read: Wallin was in a mortar platoon with halftracks. They always had ammo for their machine guns, mortars, machine-pistols, and for those people that have read a bit about the German side of the war, often you come across the troops having shortage of ammo. Was it because they were SS that they were better supplied? Also, they did not have a fuel shortage problem, which is again interesting for the same reason as the abundance of ammo. Remember this is the last 3 months of the war. He covered some of the operational side of a mortar platoon. Sometimes he had to be the forward observer - which was definately a very dangerous job to have. Other times he was one of the mortar crew, or other times he was in a foxhole with a machine gun.He wrote briefly about his motivation to fighting the "Bolsheviks", which is to be appreciated because so many German memoirs, the author does not even give the reader a crumb on what are his personal views.The author also covered how it was possible for the soldiers to keep fighting with GOOD morale, despite not having slept, eaten or drank water for days. Having seen so many of their comrades torn to pieces in combat, and of course things looking bleak as far as stopping the Soviets. Still morale was high. Crazy.The author also shed light on the whole concept of the veteran soldier so many times having a close call with death, yet making it through. He explained how it was simply luck - nothing else. There was one scene with a close call where the guy with him simply started laughing how they lived while others died just because they dismounted a halftrack seconds earlier.I have read elsewhere that many Soviet soldiers where Asiatic from the far eastern part of the Soviet Union, but it was interesting to read that here again. This author felt that the Ukrainian and Russian divisions simply had been bled to death, and that is why there were so many Mongols.There was a very interesting battle where Erik was in an observation position and saw the German troops pull out below, leaving 3 soldiers behind with Panzerfausts as rear guard. 5 Russian tanks came and Erik watched the whole thing unfold. A very unique story. You will have to read the book to find out what happened.Erik was involved in the battle for Berlin, where he was side by side the Hitler Youth. He said that these kids very quickly had the look in their faces just like the veterans of many many battles. It was one of the many sad parts of the book. He wrote how these kids with unbelievable determination would dart out with a panzerfaust, trying to stop a Soviet tank.The author described how the country side of Germany changed to the far out suburbs of Berlin, to immediate suburbs, to downtown Berlin. He wrote about what the farms looked like, then the homes, stores, and then the posh districts of Berlin. Fighting the whole way.When he was finally captured by the Soviets, it is a very interesting story on how got out of the clutches of the Soviets. He was SS, and he had to hide that fact or instant bullet in the neck. I won't give it away, but escape had many close calls, and he had to do it with a bad leg.There was plenty of combat described, in which many of Erik's comrades are slaughtered, as well as simply unknown soldiers and civilians. In the end it is stuff that is depressing and I do wonder why I read War memoirs.If you are a serious WWII history buff, this book is a must read. There were many details I have not read elsewhere, and overall the book will take you to the last months of the war and all of it's slaughter and destruction.I read a few of the reviews, and some wanted more combat scenes covered in detail, and general troop movement. My eyes glaze over when I have to read what unit went where on what day for more than a sentence. Furthermore, there was plenty of combat, and those reviewers who wanted more combat scenes are not interested in any other aspect of war other than simply how many tanks did the author blow up and how.

This was a great book! Loved the style, and the battle descriptions really drew me in. The fight against communism motivated so many young men back then, from all across Europe!

Yet another memoir that needs to be heard. Sad that these brave men who had absolutely nothing to do with the Holocaust are vilified because they chose to serve a cause they believed in. A cause that happened to be on the losing side. A brave, honest, straightforward account of infantry combat in the twilight of their existence.

Again a great read point of the eastern front from the first person point of view, from a swedish ss volunteer. Especially interesting is the author's experience during the fall of Berlin. Definitely a unique book with invaluable historical military information. The author very infrequently, at times, hints at his opinions regarding the soviets and perhaps persons of nongermanic culture, and some readers may find these unpalatable. However overall it is an objective view of a Nazi soldier in the later part of world war II, and well written and easy to read.

Horribly dry and hard to read. Wish it had more anecdotes and Case studies. If I pass the test after reading it, I may come give it a better rating. The chapters should be shorter or have quizzes at the end of subchapters because I would read 20 pages at a time and then not remember everything on the Chapter Test because it had been several days since reading the content at the beginning of the long chapter (75 pages per chapter...).

This book has mixed reviews but I found it well written and on point. This subject matter is very specialized. If you have some foundation knowledge of information security/privacy best practices this book will be a great resource. If you lack infosec experience, I suggest you start with a CISSP review guide.

This was a good book that explains healthcare compliance information and terms with security concepts. I wish there were more study questions after each chapter.

My biggest problem. THE REVIEW QUESTIONS ARE HORRIBLE.2. The book is extremely dry and boring. The only way I could read this book was when I was fresh. Do not read this book first thing in the morning, or after working a long day. You will fall asleep.3. Although the book does a good job of providing information on the CBK domain. The content within the BOOK IS JUST poor. TThis book is a major disappointment. Read this book only if you have years of experience in the HealthCare Information technology4. If you are planning on taking the HCISPP Certification save you money and time. Do what I did, go take the Healthcare Information Technology Exam by CompTIA. Honestly you will learn the same information. But more important, the books for this certification are much better than the Official (ISC) Guide.5. ISC, honestly I am shocked with your poor attempt to get into the Healthcare Information security sector. You had a good run with the CISSP. If you want Information Security Professional such as myself to keep up with our CISSP cert, or take other certs by ISC. Please do a better job next time. This is outstanding reading -- the sort of voices (there are two readers) that one would like to imagine Donne himself might have had. My copy played immediately upon putting it in my machine. The engineers should be proud of their accomplishments. Arguably a good introduction to Donne, it should also provide hours of enjoyment to aficionados of the Master.

Why Donne's sermons aren't more widely read is a mystery. The poetry, grace, timeliness and thoughtfulness in them should be required reading of this generation of preachers-who-wanna-be-stand-up-comics!

This is one of those poets that motorra (at least my mom, who is in her 70's loves from youth! I personally very much like the poetry, sonnets and poems with regard to God that are all included (I chuckled at a few of the names). Even I loved and wrote poetry, haiku and emotional poetry into my 30's - as I read some of the great poets, (Browning, Dickensin, etc.), I see my lack of the beauty and love, despair and even the ones about hate, (at times), and am in awe of the gifts they naturally were given to share with those whom were to be meant to enjoy them.Perhaps, our children would become more literate, happier, (with MUCH better use of the English language). Just a dream - I do this for my son who is in his 20's! Imaging if your child were to actually sit down by you, and then talk to you about a problem they are having that they "KNOW" they are the very first person in world to hAve this "problem," - you could then go to some of these poets who are really easily understood, review table of contents; and if you hare personally never e xperienced what they have gone through, there have been GREAT TRUE poets who have been sharing their pain. Happiness, fear, dismay, unloved...on and on! You could share the poem with them! Of course, you will want to make SURE you havd read and understood the prose and ultimate meaning for them to understand some of them) - but think of the REWARDS! Christians use the Bible! I use it too, but I have also used poetry and / I taught him the different genre's and forms and before computers, put a dictionary in front of us; I say we began reading it when he was 3! He began attempting and, I think successfully beginning his love of writing, not only poems, although they are usually his outlet. - oh, please remember that this author is excellent! I wish thry had taught some of his works in my younger days! - LAST thing - I promise! I just get so excited about helping children with emotions, showing them others have experienced (at THEIR age), some of the hard times, despair, loneliness, cruelty by other children / that poetry is a good place to start with your kids (there IS poetry for young children) - to start or help them with the need to be able to not only think they are alone with their problems, but that others kids their age (again, I say this!), and see they are not alone in what they are suffering, PLUS, if they are scared to share them with you, you are also teaching them the tool of getting pain out / abc you get the joy at their very young age of showing them your excitement about their writing and thank them for trusting you! Huge issue!are the ones

This book saved my life! No really. When I read this book 12 years ago, I was able to quit heroin for good. And trust me when i say that I was an addict of the hopeless variety.

The Tao of Pooh was awesome. It really helped me be content with where I am in life at the moment. It stresses a release from ego and being in touch with the flow of the world. I am pretty new to the concept of Taoism, but the author presented it in an easy-to-follow way and put more emphasis on the philosophy part than the religious part.One common criticism is that it comes off as anti-intellectual at times. I agree to an extent, but it is important to realize that being smart doesn't instantly make your life better. There is no end to the pursuit of knowledge, and while science is a crucial part of modern life, it isn't the key to happiness or a fulfilling life.I would recommend this to anyone who feels like there is something missing in their life, or for those who struggle to be happy because of depression and/or anxiety.

It has a lot of good insight, and a lot of things to think about in life. Overall I'm glad that I read it but I did have quite a few issues with it as well. The author very obviously does not like modern technology or the United States. Even when he stepped away, the company started to fail, but he came back, and the company took off again. The book is really fun to read, and is insightful on the journey of growing the company. It is a great story, but there is also a lot of practical advice. You have to root your organization in values and principles because if you have to think through every choice, you are killing valuable time. I liked the chapters on growing large, and feeling small. I liked the people focused dynamics. A lot of the topics translate into the church world well. If you are looking for a light read, this is a good book, and will make you think about your church culture too.

Although the book itself is great, this edition is CRAP!! The pictures, for which Howard Pyle was so famous, have been reproduced in some kind of cheap way so that they don't have ANY of the sharp, crisp lines of the original pictures!!!! Also, the type is TINY!!!! You'd need a magnifying glass to read it comfortably. So DO NOT waste your money on this large format, gray background book with an English castle on the cover. NO, NO, NO!!!!!

This is a nice new copy with a well-made sturdy cover. But I have NEVER seen such small print. There is nothing wrong with my eyesight and I have done a lot of reading in my life, but I will have a very difficult time reading this copy. I think that I will look to buy from another publisher instead of straining my eyes.

Howard Pyle's language is beautiful and draws a vision of a romantic era past. Recommended for any one young or old who enjoys a good tale and a look at not what once was, but what should have been

I have used all of Howard Pyle's books about King Arthur as read aloud books with my kids. My daughter (6) enjoys them as much as my son (8). They have become some of our favorite books. The language is beautiful. We have had to go to the dictionary at times for some of the words that are unfamiliar to us such as maugre, dolor, sucor etc. My two year old is frequently heard saying, "I'm Sir Lancelot of the Lake." We have enjoyed the King Arthur series so much that we hope to read all of Howard Pyle's books.

Wonderful stories but slow reading due to the author's use of "olde English." There are also unfamiliar words included that even Kindle did not have a definition for. This book is a challenge, but if any reader is up for wading through these stories of chivalry then there is reward to be had. It would have been nice if the author had chosen modern usage, but he exercised his prerogative to make the book more "authentic." A fun read for those with patience and an interest in knights, knighthood and King Arthur's court.

I'm a web developer, not a DBA. However, I take my study of MySQL just as seriously as any other area of development. Any serious MySQL user should read this book, especially if you foresee the need to eventually scale your DB. The material is simply too deep and too dense to really absorb all this in one read. A broad spectrum of topics are covered from how clustered and non-clustered indexes are implemented, to replication, and various storage engines. I especially liked the coverage of storage engines including NDB Cluster, SolidDB, FalconDB, as well as the more traditional storage engines like MyISAM, InnoDB, archive, memory, blackhole etc. The coverage of things like Explain, Query Caching, Sharding, and other advanced topics is far more comprehensive than anything else I have found so far (most published mysql books are beginner to intermediate; few are advanced like this one). I have read this book once, and I plan to read it again...

This is obviously not a stand alone book on acquiring knowledge about mysql. It is a small piece in the puzzle of becoming a data expert.If you have read basic text books on mysql and other databases and still feel deprived or lacking of database knowledge. This book will help with optimizing your queries and making your web apps or IT system run much faster and efficient.On a side not, the world of data is changing almost every day. I would recommend learning about aws, hadoop hive, and other modern database systems that are becoming more widely used.

I work with MySQL in a web server environment every day and performanceis always an issue. This book is simply excellent. The authors are quite knowledgeable -- they not only tell you what settings to you, but also include why. They debunked a lot of misconceptions I held about getting the best performance out of the server and when to use MyISAM v. InnoDB.I especially appreciated the deep background into server operation and how data is stored and queries processed with the different storage engines. If you are thinking of using MySQL on a large project, you need this book.There's a good reason this is a 2nd edition -- a great book.

I have not finished reading book yet but I like it so far. I am nor expert neither newbie in MySQL. I like that authors decided to use common language to explain very complicated things. With help of practical examples they help me understand where each technology may be useful. They do not waste even a single page with impractical theory... they go deep in details only, when it may help make right decision which technology must be used. This book explains why MySQL team created it and what are positives and negatives of using them.

Nothing of real substance here. I was hoping for secrets, and explanations of each tuning option and it was pretty crappy honestly.

This is a must have book for any Mysql DBA who want to learn more about performance tuning beyond reading the explain plan. The only gripe I have is that aside from the Query Performance Optimization and Optimizing Server Settings section, the authors should have another section dealing specifically with Tuning Writes and Tuning Reads other than that it's an excellent book, it even includes snippets on Prepared statements which I used often along with stored procedures to optimize performance.

I got way more than I bargained for with this book. It goes into great detail on several ways to speed up and optimize MySQL. There are several chapters that I did not really need, but the ones I did were really good. I have implemented only a few changes and done testing and have seen increased performance from MySQL. Good book!

If you read the first edition and were underwhelmed, this is a vastly improved book. This second edition is entirely rewritten, more than twice as long, and covers a wide array of topics in depth, giving detailed advice and analysis in every chapter. The authors' advice on Innodb tuning, query optimization, and advanced replication issues is very strong. If you are responsible for a non-trivial MySQL installation, get this book.
