Through personal anectdote and story Alberto teaches that mastering one's fearlessness of death and impermanence, practicing gratitude in everyday life, and becoming love are the truest and perhaps, the most powerful medicine of the shaman. "The Heart of the Shaman" is a page turner and quick read with a profound and life changing message. I would highly recommend it.

Dr. Villoldo beautifully explains how we get caught up in the nightmares of Insecurity, Death and Conditional Love, and become stuck in our lives. The book was so very helpful. I completed training with The Four Winds Society - Dr. Villoldo - back in 2008 - and have been using my Shaman training ever since. I died in an auto accident in 1976 - with much damage to my body and brain - I obviously survived. Becoming a Shaman was my salvation. However, this past year I had a "crisis of faith" - caught up too much in the world as it is. I was hospitalized and almost died - from fear alone. I have been struggling for the past 6 months to get back on the firm footing I once had. The Heart of the Shaman helped me get over that last big hurdle - fear - of death. The meditation in the book which has you asking yourself "What dies?" and "Will I die" - changed my life. The answers that came to me were totally unexpected, but snapped me back into living. Thank you Dr. VIlloldo. This book is well worth reading and rereading.

I especially liked what Dr Villoldo said about giving up the notion of a soul mate, being perfect, and a God who only loves us when we are “do what is right”. That topic on transferring the dream is right on. I am a doctor of chiropractic and I shared that with 50 people the next day who I treated and the information helped them tremendously! All his books are beautifully written. This one is a special offering and if you allow it, just like a shaman ceremony, it will help you do “Soul Retrieval” for yourself. I had a major transformation from this book.

Raised by Sudan's Dinka tribe, the Deng brothers and their cousin Benjamin were all under the age of seven when they left their homes after terrifying attacks on their villages during the Sudanese civil war. Arriving in this country, they immediately began to fill composition books with the memoirs of chaos and culture shock collected here. Well written, often poetic essays by Benson, Alepho and Benjamin, who are now San Diego residents in their mid-20s, are arranged in alternating chapters and recall their childhood experiences, their treacherous trek and their education in the camp ("People were learning under trees"). Other pieces remember the rampant disease and famine among refugees, and the tremendous hardship of day-to-day living ("Refugee life was like being devoured by wild animals"). When the boys arrived in America, Benson, upon seeing a Wal-Mart for the first time, remarked, "This is like a king's palace." First off, I want to say that anyone looking for an autobiographical read should get their hands on this book!! This book explains the long, treacherous journey that these three young men were forced to embark on. Leaving their villages behind in Southern Sudan due to the Second Sudanese Civil War, these boys illustrate the hardships and difficulties they themselves endured as well as thousands of others. In search of refuge these three boys were split up multiple times until they all ended up in a camp in Kenya. Fortunately all three of these young men were able to fly to America where they became a part of a program called the Lost Boys of Sudan to have a new life in America. Unfortunately, many girls didn't make it because they were usually in the house whereas boys were usually out in the fields and were able to escape once the war broke out. I highly encourage all to read this book!!

I became involved with a group like this from 2000-2004. It is an amazing act of courage to tell the story. The stories in this book parallel stories my friends told me first hand.The assistance they received upon arrival was desperately inadequate. Most found horrible minimum wage jobs. Many moved around from job to job without much stability. And I would say although very charming, most were unable initially to be valuable employees. They needed much more than just a few months or weeks to adjust.I remember going into an apartment in the winter and realizing they hadn't turned on the heat. Why? They didn't know it existed. They didn't know how to draw the blinds. Or use the stove. They didn't know that there was hot and cold water... Important if you plan to shower in the winter especially. And despite that, life was so much better than where they came from.Anything that increases the understanding of and compassion for these young men should be required reading..

This is a remarkable story about the strength of the human spirit. It gives one a better appreciation for the freedoms we have here in America. It is a story of faith having been tried by fire.I tells in gripping detail about the lives of 3 young boys escaping from the civil war in Sudan and all of the horrifying things they had to face on their escape southern Sudan to Ethiopia, and back and then to Kenya.They had to cross dangerous rivers and desserts, live in and out of refugee camps. Despite everything, they had to endure they managed to hang on to their humanity, sacrificing and helping others.The story even sheds some light on the unfortunate amount of corruption that prevents a lot of humanitarian aid from reaching those in need.After reading this one simply cannot help being so impressed with the boys' courage and perseverance in the face of everything happening to them.

I am in 9th grade and i was forced to read this book for honors english, and honestly I'm glad I was forced. The book is so inspiring and interesting as they talk about their years of walking not knowing if they were going to die the next day. It teaches you not to take anything for granted not your house, your family, food, even personal items. It also teaches you about the horrible war happening in sudan. I recomend that you purchase this book and learn about people who have almost nothing but still have hope in their sad world.

This book contains an amazing story- one ALL older children should read and adults as well. Seeing what these LITTLE boys as well as all the other Sudanese people went through will shock you and hopefully change the way you think about things. We complain about so many little things like the crack in our iPhone screen, or gas prices, or the fact that they are out of our favorite ice cream. These boys were surrounded by death, fear, poverty, and terrible conditions during a time of unspeakable terror for many people. They endured hardships and came out the other end and are creating a better life for themselves. The way they wrote their stories makes the book an easy read although it may bring tears to your eyes!! I have rotated it between each of my teenage children- knowing they need to see what life can be like for some many others. READ this ... It will be a story that will stay with you forever...

I am re-inventing myself as a clarinetist, after many years away from it. I have a degree in music ed and clarinet performance, so it isn't exactly a stretch. I have been collecting books I used to own and use, and this was always a favorite of mine. Still is. There is a wide variety of stuff to work on....phrasing, articulations, slurring, musicality....I just love this book.

The book came in a nice and clean plasticwrapping with a stick of ccardboard to make sure it doesnt bend. I was satisfied with the product as well as the time it got here.

I bought "Marijuana Business" new here at Amazon for $18.00 out of curiosity. I live in Colorado, and the Denver Post recently reported that there are now more marijuana shops than there are Star Bucks in the city and county of Denver.The author, Jeff Grissler, in writing this book...is presenting himself to be an expert in successfully opening and running a marijuana dispensary. I had "high" hopes that this man knew his "turf."The buyer is given no indication that this book is focussed on the state of Colorado. The marijuana laws of each state are unique to each state, this book is limited to Colorado's framework. The author should have pointed that fact out clearly. As a potential purchaser of this book, if your interests lie outside Colorado, you will need to look elsewhere.There is a sample business plan. Probably the most critical component to any business venture. The writing in this critical section is mechanical, and not very insightful. Considering the topic, it's very generic. You could almost use this generic information as a simple framework for any number of business ventures. The issue is that a marijuana dispensary is very specialized and highly regulated business to be given such a generic frame work. More importantly, the data tables in the business plan intended to present to the reader approximate expenditures are ALL $0.0 for each of the entries. There are NO projected expenditures presented for a person to aid them in developing their own business plan. The most obvious impression that this screams to the reader is, "As the expert author of this book, I have NO experience".Further in the book the reader will find Pages 138 -145. All of these pages are simply formatted sets of multiple photos, with no captions to explain what the images mean or represent. It is a meaningless inclusion that further demonstrates that the author has NO experience, and most likely does not know what the images represent.There are many critical chapters that should absolutely contain detailed information. These are logical chapters to include in a book of this type, yet these chapters are one page in length. Information that is presented, is limited and again generic. These chapters are one page in length because the expert writer of this book has NO experience.There are nearly 50 pages in the book that are blank...nothing on them...nada. Most are strategically placed as if to hide the fact that there are so many "Chapters" that are one page in length. They also serve to boost page count.It is obvious that the author has researched his topic concerning Colorado State Law and marijuana. This research is alluded to, but sadly not presented with helpful insight for a person wishing a detailed presentation of these regulations, so as to avoid legal issues in starting a marijuana dispensary. This is a new industry, and it is never made clear that the LAWS governing this industry are changing almost monthly at the time this review is written...the author never mentions that most counties in Colorado have chosen, via referendum, not to legalize marijuana dispensaries within their boundaries. For a book that is focussed on starting a marijuana dispensary in Colorado, there is NO county by county presentation of local restrictions, regulations or limitations. It is the counties and communities that set local requirements for obtaining legal licensing and allow or reject operating a dispensary. Information that is presented is general and generic in its scope and sequence.Jeff does seem to understand people and his general advice on employees was astoundingly insightful. So I researched the author to try and determine where he at least gained this knowledge. I didn't have to look farther than his amazon page, Jeff is a hair dresser, and author of many books on "Starting Up and Running Successful Salons". Well at least Jeff is an expert in something. I gave the book 2 stars because of this content., it is very insightful. I'm also guessing that if I were to buy any of Jeff's 27 books on salons, I would have gained the same knowledge for less money, I would most likely also recognize much of the content of this book.If you are seeking a great book on starting a "Marijuana Business" in the state of Colorado, it has not been written yet. By the way...I have the same level of knowledge as Jeff in running a marijuana dispensary, which is absolutely NOTHING...and that is after I read Jeff's book.Update 25th November 2014:For those interested in starting a marijuana business, there is a six part miniseries that will focus on several Colorado entrepreneurs. The series will detail their businesses and what they had to overcome to get their businesses off the ground in the state of Colorado.This 2014 Thanksgiving weekend, MSNBC will premiere "Pot Barons of Colorado." The six-part documentary series will air on Sundays at 10pm ET/PT beginning November 30th. There will be a special Sneak Peek of the first episode airing Friday, November 28th. Purchased brand new for my nursing class. Came in 2 days with Prime and had an access code. I highly recommend purchasing books outside of school because it's cheaper! Way worth it.

I personally am not a huge fan of the way this Skills book is set up, but I love having it on hand before I go to Lab and during my personal practice time. It is well written, it could just be organized in a way that is less focused on jamming information on a page and more about the actual skills themselves. It is so great for first year students though and I loved studying with it before my first lab test!

Purchased this to use with my clinical students until I received my complimentary copy for my office. These checklists seem up to date with the latest research on how to perform nursing skills. The students seem to love the fact that the lists are up to date, easy to read and portable. Good product.
