Love love LOVE this book! I teach a small class of kids ages 7-11, and this is just what they needed to be introduced to Shakespeare. I especially love the author's introduction where he explains how he came up with this idea and what the purpose of the book is (to introduce kids to Shakespeare in a fun way). My students just started reading this last week and so far are enjoying it - they can't wait to perform it. I especially like how there are 3 versions of the play, so I don't have to cut the script up myself if I have more/less students.

I have been using Brendon Kelso's, Shakespeare for Kids Books for several years in my sixth grade reading classes. My students LOVE these plays!I introduce each story by reading the children's version written in the book, Shakespeare Stories for Young Readers by Edith Nesbit. Then I select a couple of YouTube summaries of the play that have been posted by high school students and are usually quite funny. When students have a basic understanding of the play's story, they are given Brendan's scripts to act out. They have a ball! Character parts are picked randomly by drawing character names out of a bag. Then a two minute "switch time” is provided for students to trade character parts with other students. (However, more often than not male students TRY to get female parts.) By acting out the plays: true collaborative learning occurs, they get a real understanding of the stories, and they have a great time! Moreover, state standards are met when collaborative groups eagerly learn to create: plot structure diagrams, character analysis charts, themes, etc.You don’t have to be an expert on Shakespeare’s work in order to teach it, and your students will always remember the great time they had learning Shakespeare in your class!One more suggestion: Accompany the play with a showing of the movie version with Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton. There are some parts that should be skipped over for younger viewers, but my students were captivated by this old movie and they were able to accurately visualize the idea of a "Shrew", which added to their acting out the play!

The kids had so much fun putting on this play. I like how there were 3 different plays you could do depending on how many kids and how much time you had.

I bought this to see if it was acceptable for seventh grade drama. It was too short for my purpose but I loved it. It is well written and can be very funny with the right cast

(Starts throwing dollars all over the stage and in the audience).TRANIO: I have more! (Pulls out his credit card).BAPTISTA: (Grabs credit card) Okay then, Lucentio, you get Bianca! You can marry her after Katherina's wedding IF you can get your father to pay the dowry. If not then Gremio can have her. (BAPTISTA exits) Brendan Kelso is a talented writer. After I read The Taming of the Shrew, I fell in love with it! It is hilarious (like the excerpt above), and I love how melodramatic he makes the characters (especially Petruchio). I now own all of Kelso's plays, and I love them all. As a homeschooled student, I have acted in many of his plays, but my favorite is The Taming of the Shrew! I am currently reading Shakespeare's version, and I'm understanding it perfectly. I can't wait for his next script!

As a part of our Classical Conversations home school curriculum, we are diving into Shakespeare's "A Taming if the Shrew". I can already tell we are going to have a blast performing this version in class and for parents. I reached out to the authors for permission to copy the book for my students. Author, Brendan Kelso responded within about an hour! I'm also getting some cool Shakespeare temporary tattoos! Super cool guy! Can't wait to start our play!

About the Author

Noël Coward was born in 1899 in Teddington, Middlesex. He made his name as a playwright with The Vortex (1924), in which he also appeared. He was knighted in 1970 and died three years later in Jamaica.

A beautifully written and well researched biography that had me revisiting a lot of great old songs. Filled with wonderful detail and anecdotes that add a lot of color to the story. As a whole this biography is not the typical what a great guy music biography that we've all read a million times. I find a more nuanced approach such as this one to be so much more satisfying. This is the REAL story of Al Green and boy is it chilling!

Jimmy McDonough's biography of Al Green is thoroughly researched, richly detailed and wildly entertaining. It portrays a gifted, if deeply flawed, singer who catapulted to stardom in the 1970s. The author captures the depths of Green's immaturity while explaining his once-in-a-lifetime talent.

Jimmy McDonough is quickly becoming my favorite author. He wrote the best book written about Neil Young & the best piece ever written about Link Wray. Like those works "Soul Survivor" is well-written, well-researched and a pleasure to read. I appreciated his research into HI Records & Willie Mitchell as it was very relevant to defining Al Green as a recording artist.This was not an easy endeavor for McDonough since Green is loath to give interviews and did not cooperate at all in the writing of this book.McDonough lifts all rocks and looks underneath. He does his homework and puts together a very cohesive and serious journalistic effort.It's well worth the read.

I was once his biggest fan until I read this....so sad. I almost do not want to hear his music anymore

Al Green's biography is written in his songs, voice, live performances, and interviews. Jimmy McDonough provides raw facts, doctored, as is to be expected, by the author himself and those he interviewed. McDonough's critique of Green's music, though not without passion and intelligence, pales in comparison to Robert Christgau's.

Very telling and interesting. I couldn't put it down.

You can’t tell if this book is about AG or the Hodges brothers. I was looking to read about AG. Far to much about other people.

Great book for military personnel transitioning into civilian jobs

Words cannot describe how helpful this book is - for veterans and civilians alike! Lisa is gifted at breaking down complex marketing ideas (branding is a huge industry for a reason!) into approachable, easy to understand AND implement action steps. She explains why a veteran should work through his/her personal brand and then walks you through step-by-step. I've had multiple breakthroughs while working through this book and am excited to encourage others to not only read it, but study it as they transition. So grateful for Lida's contributions to our transitioning veteran community by sharing her knowledge in our terms. I can see the years of study and relationship building she put into this effort and it is clearly a passion project for her that our community will benefit from for years to come!

In the military we all learned to think and act like a team but when you transition out, you need to now focus on what you bring to the table and offer employers. Lida's book is a guide I wish I had when I got out but even now 20 years later, it's a great reference for maximizing your personal brand with others. As an Army Vet, it was strange to realize I needed a personal brand. Lida breaks down different aspects of of the transition including everything from a look at the culture you are transitioning into, to why personal branding is important and to how to prepare for an interview. She does this in an easy to read format filled with great examples. Definitely a must read for any of us who have served.

Lida Citroen takes her well documented civilian experience and applies it to our military personnel transitioning out of the service. Lida knows branding and how to coach our GIs. She has a remarkable way of speaking our language in a way that challenges and encourages us to identify our skills, abilities, and talents.I know Lida personally and have the privilege of working with her in a variety of venues. She is the GO TO person when it comes to marketing for businesses - and she seamlessly applies that perspective to our Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines as they learn to sell their skill set to potential employers.Get this book! Lida writes in an honest, down to earth manner that both keeps it simple yet respects our hard work in the military. She explains in detail some of the most daunting things we face from how to even start writing a resume, what is "business" dress (explaining that a "suit" means a jacket and pants made of the same fabric!!) Yeah, we have a hard time sometimes after being in the military for 20+ years what we really need to do to make the successful transition. Everyone. Should. Read. This. Book! It's also applicable if you're transitioning from being a college student to the work world, or if you've been with one company for a long time and are laid off. THANK YOU LIDA!

As a business executive, I can appreciate the value of veterans in the corporate environment. About the Author

Dr. Michelle Stevens, a psychologist, is the founder and director of Post-Traumatic Success, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and inspiring those affected by psychological trauma. She studied writing at New York University before earning her doctorate in psychology from Saybrook University, where her thesis was honored as the Dissertation of Distinction. It took about 15 years, 3 hospitalizations, and multiple suicide attempts to work through Gary’s dark legacy. En route to healing herself, she grew fascinated in how the mind absorbs and deals with trauma, and her fascination to study it further and further until she eventually earns a PhD with a thesis that tells her own story as a case study! Emboldened and empowered by her remarkable journey to healing, she was inspired to help others heal through her private practice as a clinical psychotherapist who specializes in trauma. Now, with SCARED SELFLESS, she hopes to help millions by telling her story in full for the first time—and, by consequence, freeing others from the mental vise in which their tormentors have held them for years. Yes, at first it's raw, but mostly it's fascinating and completely engaging.

Scared Selfless is a first person account of child abuse, sex trafficking, child pornography and how one child grew into a woman who not only worked to overcome such horrors, but went on to become a licensed psychologist in order to help others make the transition from fear to love. As a counselor with over 25 years experience working with abuse survivors, I found this book to be a beautiful mix of personal testimony and psychological treatise on the elements necessary to bring healing to such trauma. While I highly recommend this book to both professionals and any who desire a greater understanding of these themes, the reader should be aware that this book contains a great deal of painful, shocking realities which might be triggering to some.

This was a hard book to read being a victim of child sexual abuse. I read it over a weekend and had different emotions while reading it. I felt guilty reading the details of what was going on in her life at the time, maybe because I had hid my memories so much in the back of my mind for so many years... I am not sure. I do wish that she explained a little more on what happened when she took her parents to court. (she mentioned it briefly in the book).

It was an awesome book! I loved the fact that even though Michelle went through hell....she overcame and conquered her fears. I suffer from PTSD myself and although it is not from abuse...rather from multiple major car accidents. I learned a great deal. I am still in counseling and making great progress, although I still have my bad days as well. Injuries after injuries...plus 13 surgeries and facing another it has been gruesome at times. I taught many years myself, but started having physical signs from not acknowledging my own pain. It came out in seizures and fainting spells. I will never give up just as you didn't...I am so proud of you and all the people you are helping with DID!!! :-)

In a first for me, I could.not.put.this.book.down until i reached the last page. I read memoirs, autobiographies, true crime - never has any account changed my mind as completely as this story. To this day I still don't understand grown women who proclaim to "love" their abusers. Those who allow their children to be abused are despicable, like the author's mother, who had no reason to fear for her own safety. Prior to reading this book, I also could not understand why children don't "tell." The author has done a wonderful job in explaining why, in a way that no one has done before. I get it now. On behalf of his victims I do feel cheated that the evil called Gary Lundquist never suffered a single day of the pain, humiliation and trauma he inflicted. One can only hope there really is a hell for him and his ilk. I also hope that Michelle knows there are many thousands of us who are proud of her and wish continued happiness and success in her future. Final!y, thank you, Michelle, for opening my eyes.

I almost put this book away several times because it was hard to read the detailed abuse she suffered. However, she writes so well and true and helps the reader understand SO much more than her story. I feel more educated on abuse, abusers, mental illness and a lot more. Michelle's story has inspired me to help others that experienced what she did. Although I am not a survivor of child abuse, I hope to make a difference in someone else's life that is.

I highly recommend this book. I know most people don't like reading about child abuse, child trafficking but I feel it's necessary to understand and have empathy since the news outlets often downplay how common and terrible child trafficking is. It's much easier to read news about celebrities and light hearted issues vs something as terrible as child trafficking. However, I learned quite a bit about how child abuse can effect a person's entire life.

Michelle's narrative is clear and powerful. In telling her truth, she is making a difference in more lives than she knows. If you've been there, she gets you, if you love someone who has been assaulted, she opens your eyes. The time I spent reading this book changed my life and outlook. Thank you.
