It's estimated that since 1970, more than one million children a year have been directly impacted by divorce. Jesse Butterworth is one of those kids. In SIX STRING ROCKETEER, Butterworth candidly shares what it was like to discover that his parents were separating and eventually ending their marriage.Butterworth's book reads like a high school memoir. It's filled with funny stories of growing up as a Christian with all its ironies and rather bizarre spiritual-meets-secular moments. He describes being part of the "God Squad" in school and the struggles and heartache of being a slightly overweight kid with the name Butterworth. (And in case you're wondering, yes, he has already heard all the jokes.) His personal stories are delivered in a humorous, deprecating manner that is both engaging and relatable.He writes, "We were often referred to as the "God Squad" because we were all church kids. But it wasn't our deep love for the unlovely, our hours donated to charity, or our total abandonment to Jesus that set us apart. It was that we didn't cuss. We avoided every forbidden four-letter word by substituting words like frigging and schista and using phrases such as 'What the crap!' Also, if we ever said something negative about a person, we began by saying, 'Bless her heart,' and then followed it up with something like, 'but Janet is truly the most repulsive girl in the whole school.'"Barely crossing 100 pages, the actual allusions to the breakup of his family are late in coming. In many ways, this isn't really a book about divorce --- it's a book about growing up as a Christian kid in a secular world and having your world rocked by an all-too-common reality. The actual moment where Butterworth finds out the gruesome news that his parents are separating doesn't hit until page 57. That's when readers discover his response of shock and grief. For the last half of the book, we learn of his emotional shutdown and recovery. We also learn how the tender gift of his father --- an old guitar --- provided a much-needed path for healing. Throughout, Butterworth acknowledges God and communicates vulnerably without being preachy.Within the chapters, the author adds little pieces of trivia and humor. The book is packed with sidebars and inserts. There's a reference to a babysitter who wouldn't let the kids watch "The Smurfs" and a respelling of a "Pines" neighborhood sign to something far more amusing.There's also a lots of random trivia, like the "Special Secret Mario Message" that reads: "Defeat Koopaling at the end of an Airshop (Worlds 1-7) while wearing either the Frog, Tanooki, or Hammer Brothers suit and receive a special message from the King." While only Super Mario fans will truly appreciate this, it adds color to the text and is a welcome addition for short attention span readers.Throughout the book, Butterworth does a masterful job of keeping off-color humor and references to a G-rating. He hints and alludes without crossing any lines.Overall, SIX STRING ROCKETEER is a refreshing read for today's youth. OK, maybe it's not that funny, but Jesse's humor certainly makes the painful story of a teenager's life in the midst of divorce much easier to read. I could hardly put the book down, and as soon as I did my teenage daughter picked it up and read it in two days! From the perspective of an adult who went through divorce at a young age, this book will help young people understand the complexities of divorce and help them cope.Whether you are a teen going through the upheaval of divorce in your own life, or you have friends whose parents are divorcing, this book is a must read. Since we all have been touched by the effects of divorce, that should put this book on the best sellers list in no time! Read it for yourself and find out how passion in the midst of pain can transform a young mans broken heart into a whole heart overflowing with joy. BTW, Happy Late October Birthday, Jesse!

Having known the Butterworth family many years ago, I found Jesse's insights and sense of humor very much like his father's. After reading it, I passed it along to my daughter-in-law (an adult child of divorce) and to a high school senior in our Christian school whose parents recently separated. Both found it to be very helpful with their individual struggles concerning their broken families. Great job, Jesse!

I loved it, this is a great book not only for youth but for parents to understand the dynamics of their children. I my suggestion don't hesitate. Snap this book up, it is a fantastic resource.

Just received the book and I must say that it reminds me of metaphysics which I believe in the power of the mind. There are some negative reviews from people who just read the introduction which it states "get over it" and because they didn't read any further the message was missed. When you continue to read you will read the true meaning when she says "Beloved get over it" which expresses compassion and healing. It depends on where you are at your journey in life. You may be ready and you may not. I have bought many books that my spirit wasn't ready for at the time. This one however is for me because as you learn with CBT its learned behaviors and how to unlearn some of the pain that travels with you. If your ready get it. If your new get it this is a simple way of understanding how we affect our own lives and our baggage. Great read!

I preordered this book knowing it would be worth the wait and it was. In typical Rick Steves fashion, there is a lot of historical and practical information. As always there are plenty of time and money-saving tips. I particularly like how the ‘best of’ and ‘must sees’ are called out and color or shape coded. It makes finding bucket list ideas easier. There are also some handy single and multi day schedule samples as well. The book describes what there is to see be geographic region, broken into chapters like Western Iceland, Southeast Iceland and so on. Like most of Steves’ books, it caters to families and older travelers in my opinion. But that’s his demographic. While the vast majority of the book focuses on the peak season of the summer months, there are some tips and highlights that cover winter as well (my interest) but not as much as I had hoped for. There’s a lot of value in this book and is pretty much all you need to plan a typical vacation to Iceland. I take a half star off for a couple of reasons. There’s a lot of back and forth page turning, where something is referenced on another page. Not a reason the dislike the book, but somewhat annoying. But more than that, I’m looking for more extreme adventure, such as self-driven off road sites on the famous F roads, or dogsledding tours, and this book doesn’t cover that much. It only references driving rules and encourages buying tours for the off highway stuff. I also wish there had been a color map included as a pullout to take in the car or something. An additional book will be needed for the backcountry or extreme adventure information. But all in all an excellent book. A must-have for your first time in Iceland.

It's great having a new Rick Steves book to supplement the meager Iceland travel book offerings! Before I received it, I read Lonely Planet Iceland which was great. However, Rick Steves definitely delivers with his down-to-earth, "opinionated" travel writing. He doesn't hesitate to tell you what's worthwhile and what's not, which is valuable for a trendy tourist destination like Iceland. He also has different advice than Lonely Planet on the highlights of the country, ranging from which broad regions to prioritize, down to specific sights. You may agree or disagree, but it's great to have another trusted opinion when researching your trip. I also like his description of road trips, including directions, scenic routes, suggested stops, places to eat, etc. The book is organized very well. I suspect this will be the book that earns a place in my suitcase!

We have been a follower of Rick Steves travel but this is not his best.NOT good advise to use Airbnb. Just spent 17 days. Think its better to stay in guest houses with breakfast (unless you have a big group and want to cook in...not my idea of vacation! I also don't agree with getting the small car and no 4x4. Even the "good roads" sometimes are gravel and potholes. We have loved his "off the beaten path" but only one suggestion in this book (Westman Islands) so nothing special. Lastly his travel times from place to place and his length of hiking time are not very accurate. Lastly, the book is hard to follow...jumps around too much.

It is a good overview and provides good information on what to see. But it lacks the in-depth knowledge and analysis that I found in his Italy books. I think he misses or undersells many excellent things to see or do. A drive around Heimaey is one example of one of the amazing things we did that he doesn't really discuss. I also disagree with many of his restaurant recommendations and he needs to provide more options reviews in Reykjavik.He may be more focused on how to see the most things in the least amount of time and more focused on museums over the natural wonders on the island.

This book literally made my trip 1000x better. Rick had one key piece of advice..."use airBNB". I wouldn't have occurred to me, and I never used it before this trip...but Iceland's population is like 90% tourist during the summer and the few hotel rooms are super-over-priced and not worth it (except a few). Rick did a good job of providing prioritized itineraries and so forth. Really helped me to plan a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Iceland. The writing was well done and it was easy to read, but I could also bring the book out onto the road, with a few bookmarks, and it was handy. Probably the best tourist book I've purchased in recent years...

Having been an NP who worked for a private house call practice and helped grow it, I found this book to be layered with surface information but nothing that took you deeper in the processes. Signing up for your own LLC is extensive and the book doesn’t take you through the process or have business forms to assist you. There isn’t any information on how to write a business plan for investors. I am also curious on how you obtain labs since many senior living communities don’t have their own and many aren’t on home health. How do you do that portion other than hiring your own phlebotomist/nurse to perform these and what is the billing method? I didn’t feel like this book showed you how to grow your practice. While I think being an entrepreneur is great, I want to grow the practice to occasional visits by me and broadening the practice to other cities etc. For those who never have done housecalls, then this would be a good overview but it’s not a step by step business guide. This book is not good for MDs at all as a lot does not pertain to them.People saying she’s not a Dr....she is a DNP...doctor of nursing practice. The doctorate is the highest degree an NP can obtain so yes she’s a doctor. Please do some education on what NPs are and they ARE qualified and professional enough to write books and give patient care. So please don’t judge if you know nothing about the scope of an NP. Although I’m not a huge fan of the book, the author has a remarkable background and is delivering excellent patient care to those in need.

This book did exactly what it said it would do. It discussed starting a medical house-call practice. Dr. Lawson-Baker, NP states that her book will either excite you to start your house-call practice or scare you into keeping your day job. Well, I must say it scared me into keeping my day job. She recounts how she started her practice and discussed the ins and outs of owning and operating a medical clinic. I will say the book was helpful but I didn't give it 5 stars because I would have liked more information. She spends a great deal of time on medical billing and coding specific to geriatric practice and medicare. Perhaps she has another book that deals more with pediatrics.

Too much money for the information

Needs more details. It gave a good overlook but details would be nice. I am looking for more technical infomation I guess. I would love to pick authors brain on structure, billing, and more.

Dr. Baker is a nurses nurse. Credible, reliable, and loves to empower all health care providers in the establishment of a house call practice. Great read...good review. Straight to the point! Good job you fabulous nurse Dr. Scharmaine Baker! Kudos!

This book is a gem for anyone looking for information on opening a house call practice. The book is small, but has all of the necessary ingredients to start out on the right foundation. Highly Recommended!

Information is good, BUT this little 123 pg. paperback book is way expensive!

Seemed incomplete and overall a waste of paper. Should have been a free blogpost.

I purchased this book directly from Mr. Dearman's website, custodysimplified.com, back in January of this year, after getting served with papers from my ex seeking to take full physical custody of my daughter.Like most people, I did not take this lightly. I scoured the internet, high and low, for nearly 7 full days... and all of the information was overwhelming. The majority of sites covered a small slice of information, but were actually lawyers advertising their services that ran in the THOUSANDS of dollars, which I could not afford. Some sites only covered the court process, others covered how to handle the situation (oftentimes, with POORLY written advice), horror stories of others, and legal language that the layman would be confused and flustered by. I felt like going crazy up until that point, with fear, panic, anger, and hopelessness.Then, I came across Mr. Dearman's website, and I read through a few blog posts, and then an excerpt of the book. What I saw was so comforting (I'll explain more on that in a moment). Feeling at my wits end, I decided to purchase the book, and I can say, with 100% sincerity, that this book saved me. I was no longer scared. I was empowered, I was enlightened, and most importantly, I felt prepared.This book is clear, concise, easy to read, and chock full of rational, logical advice. It tells you how to behave during this highly stressful time where your emotions are running high. It gives you a clear list of warnings, and things to avoid that look bad in court that you wouldn't cognitively rationalize on your own. It tells you what to expect through the whole process, so you are prepared for anything.What I found most important, is that it lays out a plan of action for you, that is super easy to follow, all-inclusive, easy to complete. Just check off each point as you go. When it was time to go to court, I had compiled a neatly organized book that made the judge's eyebrows raise in amazement when he looked through it. He even commended the work that I had done, while my ex had a few jumbled papers printed out as "evidence".I had spent immeasurable hours searching for what to do, and this book has it all in one place. Needless to say, I won the case, my ex had to pay my attorney fees, and I have my baby!!!!***HERE'S THE KICKER*** This book was initially marketed toward father's (the new version is not). I am a woman! If you're going through a custody battle, this will be the most valuable couple of dollars you will ever spend.Thank you, Erik, for your hard work putting this together and helping parents in truly desperate times!

The information in this book is generally available at their website. While it was nice to have a few things fleshed out and the tips on organization are, I assume, valuable, I don't believe it was worth the $10.The information contained is highly geared towards fathers, but could be useful to either parent. It talks about the types of evidence, organizing that evidence, and general common sense on not blowing up on your ex around your child and actually being a decent person and being able to "prove" that. If you're truly lost this would be a good resource, but if you're looking for some stellar insight you won't find it in this book.

This book is very informative. I highly recommend it to anyone going through custody disagreements. I wish we had bought this years ago.

Plants are doing a lot of work for us. We are mostly unaware of it. Plants produce the oxygen we breath, bring moisture into the air and also remove poisons. At the moment the outdoor air quality is often not very good, low in oxygen and high in pollutants. The indoor air quality however is often worse. Plants can change that. They are making our homes healthier.In the descriptions of all the house plants there are some notes about a small group of plants that also produce oxygen at night. They are therefore very suited for bedrooms. The writer could have given more attention to this group of plants, since we all like fresh sleeping quarters.

Does just what it says. Gives you the information to grow fresh air where needed. It solved my formaldehyde Have a monitor with data to prove it works.

I really love this book. Most of us are in the dark about growing houseplants, we may get a pothos, abuse it, a ficus, watch it call out to us in vain while on its last legs and that's it. Well i got tired of helplessly watching my plants' sad transformation and got a couple books. This one paired with "35 Plants You Can't Even Kill" have been a godsend for the few plants I had left and armed with my books, I am now knowledgable when adding to the family. A friend of mine ordered this book after seeing mine since chemicals in the air is an issue at her condo. Sharing the knowledge of this book has been appreciated by my friends! I don't have pets so toxicity is not an issue so take heed that you will have to do your own research on that. Its a beautiful book with two excellent photos of each plant, one detail of each taking up an entire page.Since purchasing this book I am finding plant care research being like any other research and that is that each source has a little something that the other does not. One page is dedicated for each plant. Great info to get you started.

Excellent book. I appreciated it's layout. The first few chapters give yous a well balanced introduction to educate you reasonably enough. It's not too elementary as to leave you feeling uninformed; yet it doesn't overwhelm you with information about a new subject so that it goes over your head. The rest of the book gives a nice "handbook" approach of the top air quality plants to choose from while starting out on this adventure of obtaining cleaner air in your home.

I got this book 2 years back and it led to me purchasing 20 plants for my house. It's got two pictures of each plant and sufficient details on ease of maintenance, resistance to insects, transpiration rate, and effective air cleaning capability of the 50 plants. I took one star off due to it being outdated as it doesn't include the two extremely beautiful indoor plants that I own - Kentia Palm (the most beautiful of all indoor palms) and the Clivia plants (that are so beautiful to look at even without the flowers). Both of these are not only beautiful but are excellent in terms of ease of maintenance and resistance to insects. I guess more and more indoor plant varieties are being sold now and so the author just trying to bank on old research and old set of plants isn't enough. Also agree with one of the reviewer as to lack of information on the size of the plant that was used vs. cleaning effectiveness.

This book is fantastic. It is very informative and lets you know everything you need to know about house plants. I was scared to get a house plant because I was terrified of killing it, but this book makes me feel confident about maintaining and selecting the right plant for me!

A friendly composition for both the general reader and those who want to grow these plane inside their homes. Introductory tutorial sections discuss indoor air polution, and the process by which the featured plants detoxify polution. Each of the 50 plants featured was selected after systematic laboratory examinations. And each of those 50 is described in detail on two facing pages which show pictorily the plant as it might be grown andcared for inside, and an enlargement that shows the structure of each plant up close. The soft cover binding in combination with the book's format allows it to be set open on a table hands-free.

This book was nice, but wish it listed more plants and info.
