John Skewes is a professional illustrator living in Seattle. He began work as a product designer and character artist for Disney Consumer Products before leaving to start his own company, Retrodyne Industries in 2001. His clients include Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, Fox, Pixar, and Simon & Schuster. As the creator and illustrator of the award-winning Larry Gets Lost™ children's book series, John has followed Larry from the southern tip of Texas to tiny Nome, Alaska, and been lost several times himself. He has illustrated over 20 children's books, including the Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Michael Mullin lives in LA, but grew up in New England, where all his sports allegiances remain. One of our friends is moving out of Houston (and of US), and as a farewell gift we bought her daughter a couple of books: Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse and this one. This book about Larry has a perfect balance between a story of Larry getting lost and the "information" about multiple locations in Texas. The book covers many places: Big Bend, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, etc. The trade-off of having so many places is that each of them gets only a small amount of text. Austin, for example, has only half page.All in all, we are very happy with this book, since we have liked the story, and it will be a great memory of Texas as a whole. I will probably buy the same one if I move out!
Purchased this for Big Bro's 65th B-Day, as we all grew up in Philly. Whenever, he returns to visit, he will leave the house, to go for coffee, ice cream, etc. and doesn't return home for hours--so this was especially perfect for him.However, the book is truly spot on with the various things to see and do in Philly. If your kid gets assigned "Flat Stanley" (for Philly), this is also a great reference book for that as well.

Great book for my 4 yr. old grandson, as we live in Texas and we have a dog named Larry!! It shows Larry in all the great vacation or tourist spots all over Texas!

Cute book. The illustrations are beautiful.
I love this book so much. We bought it for our unborn child to learn about where we're from. My favorite part is that it grows with the kid. There are great pictures and simple rhymes/lines for the youngest ones, and plenty of detailed descriptions for the older ones to learn more about the city.
